A Long Weekend in Prague – My Experience

For years, I’d been dreaming of visiting Prague, and finally, the moment arrived! My brother, his wife, and I packed our bags for a three-day, three-night adventure in this beautiful city. Here’s everything we did, saw, and learned along the way.

Getting Around

We mostly relied on Uber and Bolt—both are affordable and super convenient. Our airport rides (late at night and in the evening) never cost more than €15. If you prefer public transport, Prague also has trams and buses options, which can be a fun way to explore.

Day 1: Exploring the Old Town & a Medieval Feast

We arrived Thursday night and checked into our hotel in Prague 1, right in the heart of the Old Town. Being so central meant we could walk everywhere, which made sightseeing effortless.

Our first day was all about wandering around, soaking up the city’s charm. Of course, we followed the crowds to Charles Bridge—it’s stunning, lined with statues, and offers breath-taking views of Prague. But it was packed! If you want a quieter experience, I’d suggest visiting early in the morning or late at night when it has a completely different, almost magical atmosphere.

From there, we walked toward Prague Castle—which sits on a hill, so get ready for a bit of cardio! The climb is worth it because once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with an incredible panoramic view of the city. We stumbled upon the St. Vitus Cathedral, a true masterpiece, so we decided to buy tickets and explore inside.

💡 Tip: The Prague Castle ticket (€15) includes entry to:

  • Prague Castle
  • Old Royal Palace
  • St. George’s Basilica
  • Golden Lane
  • St. Vitus Cathedral

We didn’t manage to see everything due to time constraints (poor planning on our part!), but the cathedral stole the show for me. It was grand, breath-taking, and worth every second inside. The castle itself? Honestly, I barely noticed we were in one—it didn’t feel like a typical castle. However, Golden Lane was adorable! It felt like stepping into a fairy-tale, with tiny, colourful houses that looked like they belonged to dwarfs.

For dinner, we had booked a medieval experience at Krčma U Pavouka, and it was unforgettable! The €55 price tag covered a three-course meal, unlimited beer & wine, and a full-on medieval show with live music, fire performances, and small plays. It was so much fun!

After taking full advantage of the unlimited drinks, we wandered into Madame Tussauds right across the street. It was empty, small, but a lot of fun. We wrapped up the night with more drinks near our hotel.

Day 2: Libraries, Dancing Buildings & Another Medieval Dinner

After a relaxing breakfast, we headed to the Klementinum Library—a must-see in Prague. Tip: Book your tickets online or get them early in the morning, as they sell out fast. The library was amazing (though you can only view it from the entrance), and we learned some cool facts—like the heaviest book weighing 70kg! We also climbed up the tight spiral staircase to the observatory for another stunning city view.

From there, we took a scenic 30-minute walk along the river to visit The Dancing House, an architectural gem. Instead of going up to the rooftop, we opted for a cozy lunch nearby. Since we were a bit under the weather, we spent the afternoon resting at the hotel.

For dinner, we went to another medieval tavern—U Krále Brabantského. Unlike our first dinner, this one didn’t require a pre-booked show—it was a surprise to find a live performance happening when we arrived. The food, atmosphere, and service were top-notch. It truly felt like stepping back in time. Oh, and fun fact: they don’t give you cutlery unless you ask—so be ready to eat with your hands for the full medieval experience!

Day 3: Kafka, Museums & Final Wanders

With no set plans for our last day, we took a relaxed approach. Our first stop was the Franz Kafka Statue at OC Quadrio Shopping Centre. Then, we strolled through the Jewish Quarter, which was peaceful and beautiful. Since everything in Prague is fairly close together, we covered a lot of ground in just a 40-minute walk.

On a whim, we decided to visit the National Museum—mostly to kill time before our flight, but it turned out to be a great choice. The best part? They had lockers where we could leave our bags, so we could explore freely. And yes, yet again, we climbed to the rooftop for another amazing city view (seriously, Prague has so many viewpoints!).

Finding lunch at 3 PM was tricky, as most kitchens were closed. Luckily, we found a great restaurant that, while a bit pricey, served incredible food. With full stomachs, we wandered the city a little more, grabbed some farewell drinks, and finally took a Bolt back to the airport.

Helpful Tips for Visiting Prague

🛺 Getting Around: Bolt and public transport are your best options. Both are reliable and affordable.

💳 Payments: You don’t need cash! We used Revolut and Monzo, and every place accepted card payments.

🍻 Food & Drinks: Eating out is affordable, especially when it comes to beer—which is incredibly cheap compared to other European cities!

📍 How Many Days?: 2 full days are enough to cover the main sights. However, if you enjoy museums and want a more relaxed experience, 3 days is ideal.
